Overview

On this tailor-made travel package journey across Ecuador and Peru you will discover the Galapagos Islands, considered as one of the most wonderful creations of nature. As well as Machu Picchu, an iconic ruin from the Inca Empire, one of the wisest and organized ancient cultures of the World.

During your 5 Day Small Ship Galapagos Cruise visits Baltra, Mosquera Islet, Santiago, Rabida, Isabela, Fernandina and Santa Cruz.
Mosquera Islet is a perfect introduction to the Galapagos Islands, with barren lava rock, sandy beaches, little plants and large sea lions. Santiago is next with its black sand beach and wonderful marine wildlife including lobster, starfish, marine iguanas, Sally Lightfoot crabs and endemic fur seals. Rabida Island is considered the epicenter of the Galapagos Islands due to its diversity of volcanic geology and is easily recognized by its iron-rich red shores.
On Isabela, the largest and youngest island in the Galapagos, snorkel among countless tropical fish, sea lions and turtles at Urbina Bay, then hike to Darwin Lake for excellent views of volcanic formations, some of which are still active. Spot the largest, most primitive-looking marine iguanas on Fernandina before crossing the Bolivar Channel to visit Vicente Roca Point. Complete this cruise by ambling amidst giant tortoises in the natural habitat in the Santa Cruz Highlands and wonder what it’s like to live to be 200 years old like some of these ancient creatures.

Explore the highlights of Peru. Discover the indigenous and colonial history of Cusco, and tour the Inca towns and markets in the Sacred Valley. You’ll also enjoy a guided tour of Machu Picchu, plus much more.

Particular among these are the endemic Galapagos fur seals which maintain a small colony at the end of our walk. Galapagos Weather
The Galapagos archipelago has a unique tropical nature in matters of weather. The influence that the marine currents create on the islands makes it unusually dry. There are two very different seasons that completely change the environment and landscape during six months each. Even though the pattern that the currents create is accurate, the weather behavior is unpredictable in the transition of the seasons and is completely changeable within a few hours.
The warmest months are from December to June. January to March can be hot and humid, but also mostly green at this time. The months from July to November are cooler. The average year-round temperature is 76°F (24°C).
What would happen if I get seasick?
We have seasick medication on board all of our ships, but if you are particularly sensitive to it, you can bring your own medication and we recommend to take it at least 24 hours before the cruise starts.
What is the schedule for meals on board?
On board the M/V Galapagos Legend, breakfast is served from 7:00 to 8:00, lunch at 12:00 and dinner at 19:00. On your last day, breakfast will be at 6:30 so we can have enough time for our last excursion before going off to the airport.
Meals are gourmet, healthy, low on fat, with vegetarian options; they also include traditional dishes of local cuisine.
Is there any physical requirements for the cruise?
We recommend passengers to be in reasonably good physical condition as some trails may be difficult. Therefore, elderly or disabled persons may find them too demanding and must notify us about their physical condition in order to make the necessary arrangements. We reserves the right to decline a passenger if anyone fails to inform of any physical disability, or who, under company´s discretion, constitutes a danger to themselves, other guests, crew members, or the operation of the vessel.
Does the guide accompany us on each Island?
Yes. By law, all Galapagos cruises are guided by a National Park – certified guide. The night before the cruise the guide gives an informative lecture of the next day’s itinerary. During this meeting he/she will describe the flora, fauna, and type of terrain that passengers may observe on the island. Questions about biological, geological and human history are always welcome.
How can I avoid getting altitude sickness?
To reduce your risk of altitude sickness, the best thing you can do upon arrival to Cusco Airport is to head straight to the lower altitude of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Believe it or not, Cusco is at an altitude of 11,150 feet elevation and Machu Picchu way lower at 7,850 feet elevation!
Proper acclimation can make a huge difference.
